Capturing the Classic Froggy Pose: A Favorite Among Newborn Photographers

One of our most requested image is the froggy pose—a sweet, curled-up shot where baby’s chin rests gently on their hands, with legs tucked under and feet peeking out to the sides. It’s a pose that beautifully showcases a baby’s tiny features, and the peaceful calm of those early days.

Safety First — Always a Priority

One of the most important things to know about the froggy pose is that it’s never done in a single shot. It’s created using a composite of two images, where baby is supported the entire time—either by the photographer or an assistant. Hands are never taken off baby until the editing process, where we merge the two images to create the final result.

This ensures that:

  • Baby is always safely supported.
  • There’s no strain on their neck, spine, or limbs.
  • The entire experience remains calm and peaceful.

As professional newborn photographers, we are trained in proper posing and safety techniques to protect your baby while capturing beautiful keepsakes.

What Parents Should Know

If you’ve seen the froggy pose on Pinterest or social media and love it, let us know ahead of your session! Not every baby will feel comfortable enough to do this pose, and we always follow the baby’s lead. If they’re not feeling it that day, we’ll gently move on to other poses that are just as lovely.

The Art and Magic of Newborn Photography

The froggy pose is just one example of how newborn photography combines artistry, patience, and safety to create heirloom-quality images. It’s a pose that continues to be a favorite because it’s both adorable and timeless.

Whether we achieve the froggy or opt for a cozy wrap or natural snuggle pose, your baby’s comfort is always at the heart of everything we do. After all, these first days are fleeting—but the images will last a lifetime.
